Modest Harajuku Styles

Harajuku Street style from the latest snaps of TokyoFashion.com

HARAJUKU.. is a name of an area in Japan (located between Shinjuku and Shibuya) around Harajuku Station on the Yamanote Line in the Shibuya ward of Tokyo (source: wikipedia), renowned for its "FREE" fashion style of the people on the street who are in the area of Harajuku.

The fashion styles of these people, mostly youths, rarely conform to one particular style and are usually a mesh of many. Many people world-wide love these unique street fashion and get inspired by them.

I love Harajuku styles. In some ways, they look edgy, chic, or look classic and elegant; But sometimes, at the same time, they might be look "old fashion" (70's, 80's styles, etc.), or pull off a "themed/costume-based" style (halloween, iconic character, punk, band-fans, gothic, western, princess, farm-girl, etc.), or have a "school girl"-ed look (casual/sport shoes with socks, etc.). Anyway, these styles are not intimidated by fashion trends, instead fashion acts as a tool to convey the wearers' own unique style. That is something I love from Harajuku styles.

Here.. are some modest Harajuku Looks from Tokyo Fashion that can be your style inspiration.. :)

This last look is from Roppongi (near Harajuku area). I included it because it is also a "harajuku style" (a layered style of lots of different cuts, materials, and things) which, even it looks overwhelming, the layering way really inspire me.

Casual street-style of Frida Gustavsson

Style Inspiration for today

From the Best-Dressed Poll on Style.com magazine, here is Frida Gustavsson's style on the street:

 Source: Style.com

She wore a coral, over-sized sweater with a pair of blue jeans, and a simple, red, rectangle handbag with small dots on the edge and a hand-strand, matched with a statement necklace and a pair of feminine pumps.

A simple, edgy, casual style from Frida Gustavsson that you can easily achieve..

For the headscarf, you can wear a GREY-coloured headscarf, as Frida used that colour for her tee under the sweater (it peeked out of her sweater's neckline). That neutral colour grey will tone down the color of the sweater and, on the other hand, will bold out the necklace.

Hijab styling tips:

Wear the necklace with a LONG strand (so it won't be hid by the scarf; Or, place it over the scarf), and wear the blue jeans in a slight WIDE cut.
